New Delhi: The National Students' Union of India (NSUI) on Sunday held an "Ungli Toh Uthegi - Hallabol March" towards Jantar Mantar, demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The march was led by NSUI national president Vinod Jakhar, who was seen holding a placard bearing the message "Gyanesh, it's done, bro".
"We will protest, and we will assert that this finger is a symbol of the 130 crore people of this country...Gyanesh Kumar has turned the Election Commission into an extension of the BJP. We demand that Gyanesh Kumar resign; if he does not, we will head to Jantar Mantar," NSUI National President Vinod Jakhar said.
"Even though Jantar Mantar is no longer a designated protest site...You cannot remove Jantar Mantar as a protest site; it is our right. Along with demanding the resignation of Gyanesh Kumar, we also demand that we be permitted to protest at Jantar Mantar," he added.

Protest against Gyanesh Kumar continues
The protest comes amid a series of demonstrations by student groups and other organisations demanding Kumar's resignation. NSUI said the march was aimed at raising questions over the functioning of the Election Commission and demanding accountability from its chief. The march began at the NSUI national headquarters in New Delhi and proceeded towards Jantar Mantar, according to the organisation.

Earlier last week, Delhi Police detained NSUI workers who were staging a protest outside Parliament Street Police Station over the alleged assault on NSUI activists and the alleged failure to register an FIR in the matter. During the protest on October 13, student activists alleged that they were assaulted during detention following protests against the Election Commission. Jakhar's remarks come ahead of a 'Lehra Do Tiranga' protest called by CJP activist Abhijeet Dipke at Central Park in Connaught Place on Friday.
