Trinamool Congress leader Kunal Ghosh’s car was once again attacked in the Hooghly district on Saturday while he was on his way to Serampore to attend a meeting called by party supremo Mamata Banerjee. A video shared by Ghosh shows that stones and eggs were allegedly hurled at his vehicle.

The incident occurred in the Uttarpara area when a group of people carrying black flags surrounded Ghosh's vehicle and shouted ''go back'' slogans, a party leader told the news agency PTI. They pelted the TMC leader's car with eggs and stones.

What TMC Leader Kunal Ghosh Said

Reacting to the incident, Ghosh said, "This is jungle raj. They attacked my car with stones and eggs and blocked the road. No police personnel were present there. I am now returning to Kolkata and will go straight to Lal Bazaar or Bhawani Bhawan to lodge a complaint."

“BJP goons attacked my car while I was on my way to attend Banerjee’s rally. A mob, armed with lathis and rods and carrying black posters, was shouting slogans. A second mob blocked the road. They hurled eggs and bricks and broke both the windcreens. Glass shards fell all over me. I couldn’t go ahead any further,” he said.

He alleged that the car's rear windscreen was broken in the attack.

The video clip reportedly shows a few persons surrounding Ghosh’s vehicle and shouting slogans. Some hit the car, eggs were hurled, and the rear windscreen was damaged.

The TMC leader was on his way to the former West Bengal Chief Minister's rally. The Calcutta High Court permitted Banerjee to hold a public meeting at Serampore with a strict crowd cap of 1,000 people.

Mamata Banerjee’s Reaction

Former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee condemned the attack on party leader Kunal Ghosh, saying, "I once again request... please cooperate. Don't create a nuisance for Bengal. As per the court verdict, we are addressing a meeting today at Srirampur. But our people are being severely beaten, and they are being blocked on the road. They are not allowed to go to the spot, and all the BJP hooligans and lumpens are attacking our people. So many people have been attacked; they have been gheraoed. Now I am rushing to the spot. Let me see... Our people are being gheraoed. Their car has been broken, and Kunal Ghosh, our leader, active leader, is totally injured..."

Several TMC leaders claimed that the incident was the "handiwork of the BJP".

Party leader Asit Majumdar alleged that it was a "pre-planned attack by the BJP, not a protest by common people".

While Uttarpara BJP MLA Dipanjan Chakraborty described the incident as a "spontaneous response from the public".

Previous Incidents

This is not the first time Ghosh has been attacked with eggs. He was attacked on June 15, 2026, while he was leaving the residence of TMC chief Mamata Banerjee.

The incident took place outside Banerjee's residence when two local youths approached him and attacked him with an egg. A video from the scene surfaced on social media, showing a man in a black shirt holding eggs.

Interestingly, this is not an isolated case, as egg-throwing incidents targeting TMC leaders have been reported multiple times in recent months, coinciding with increased political tensions in West Bengal following the party’s electoral setback against the BJP.
