A couple of days after Surendra Koli was found dead at his tea shop in Haridwar, his brother Chandan Koli has filed a police complaint, seeking a high-level investigation into the death, which he alleged occurred under suspicious circumstances.
According to a report by Hindustan Times, Chandan has claimed in his complaint that the circumstances surrounding Surendra's death raise suspicion over the possibility of suicide, as the family member who first saw his body had noticed blood stains around the mouth and nose while blood was flowing out of the body.
Chandan claimed that the family believes it may not be a suicide. Accordingly, he has demanded a transparent and detailed investigation to ascertain the circumstances around his death.
He has urged the police to take strict action if anyone is found responsible. "On Saturday, when we saw the body, blood was flowing, and blood stains were spotted on the mouth and nose. A rope was also tied around the neck. This does not seem to be a suicide case, so I demand a high-level probe in this regard so that due legal action can be taken against the one who committed such a crime,” Chandan was quoted as saying by HT.
Notably, Surendra Koli was acquitted in Noida's infamous Nithari case and walked out of jail ten months ago. He had been living in Haridwar for over a month and used to run a mall tea stall in the Sapt Sarovar area on Bhupatwala Road.
His body was found with a noose around his neck. Shishupal Singh Negi, Circle Officer (City), said the death prima facie seemed suicide.
"Initial probe is going on. The post-mortem report is awaited. Prima facie, the death appears to be a suicide case, but only after the post-mortem report can the exact reason be established," Negi said.
