National Investigation Agency (NIA) is likely to take over the investigation into the interstate module of Lashkar-e-Taiba, operated by Pakistani terrorists, which was busted by the Jammu and Kashmir Police.
The NIA is expected to take over the probe in a few days. Meanwhile, sources, cited in a report by Jagran.com, suggested that the police have also searched the upper part of Harwan besides the old city after they got some clues from the Lashkar module.
It is noteworthy that in the last week of March, with the help of intelligence agencies, Jammu and Kashmir Police arrested two notorious Lashkar-e-Taiba members, Abdullah alias Huraira and Usman, from Malerkotla, Punjab.
Based on their information, three of their local associates in Srinagar, six members of their module in Haryana, and four in Rajasthan were arrested.
Questioning of suspects continues
In addition, interrogation of two dozen other suspects is underway. Huraira and Usman are terrorists with a reward of Rs 10 lakh each. Huraira has been active in Kashmir since 2010, while Usman has been active for nearly nine years. Both of them had established hideouts not only in Punjab but also in Nuh Mewat in Haryana and Rajasthan. They used to travel to various parts of the country on the basis of fake documents.
An official linked to the investigation told that Huraira and Usman were looking to sneak out of the country. On of their associate, named Umar alias Khargosh, has already fed the country.
They all had obtained fake passports. He said that the way Huraira, Usman, and their local and foreign associates have spread their network across the country has shocked all agencies.
This is a major conspiracy and network, which will be revealed only after a thorough investigation. Funding for this module was coming from several other countries, including Saudi Arabia.
Why us Centre Mulling to hand over case to NIA?
This module was carrying out its operations with great ingenuity. The case has links not only to Pakistan but also to several other countries. Therefore, the central government is seriously considering handing over the investigation to the NIA.
Although it has not been officially confirmed, report indicates that the state police have been informed.
They have been asked to prepare all information, facts, and details of the recovered material related to the case so that the NIA does not face any difficulties in formally taking over the investigation.
The official stated that the investigation could be handed over to the NIA within the next few days.
