In a horrifying incident in Odisha’s Ganjam district, two teenage girls were reportedly abducted from a wedding ceremony and gang-raped by four men, according to police. The girls, aged 14 and 15, were later found abandoned in a remote area. All four accused were arrested while attempting to flee to Visakhapatnam.
Brahmapur Superintendent of Police (SP) Shravan Vivek confirmed that the assault occurred on June 3. The victims' families stated in their complaint that the girls were attending a wedding when they were taken by the accused. “They alleged their daughters were gang-raped. They were also allegedly assaulted before they were abandoned in a deserted area,” SP Vivek said, as reported by NDTV.
Initial investigations revealed that two men had lured the girls away one of whom was known to one of the victims. These two were later joined by two more men, and all four allegedly committed the crime, police said.
The minors were eventually found by their families in a deserted location. The case was registered on June 4, and the girls were medically examined on June 6.
“A case has been registered under relevant sections and Golanthra police have arrested all the accused. As per the Supreme Court directive, the survivors were produced before the Child Welfare Committee for counselling,” SP Vivek stated.
All the accused are from the same village as the girls. They were intercepted by the police while attempting to escape to Visakhapatnam and have since been produced in court.
