Congress General-Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Wednesday took a swipe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying that the leader "keeps whinning" and suggested that a movie titled "Mere Naam" -- a play on the title of the 2003 Bollywood film featuring Salman Khan -- be produced with him in the focus.
"What to say about Modi ji...He keeps crying (Rote hi rehte hain). In the movie 'Tere Naam', Salman Khan was crying from beginning to end. Similarly, Modi Ji keeps crying every time. A movie on him should also be made with the title 'Mere Naam'," the Congress leader said while addressing a public meeting in Datia district of poll-bound Madhya Pradesh.

Priyanka added that PM Modi is the first prime minister of India who is constantly "in pain with his own problems". She stated, "Narendra Modi is the first PM of India who is always in pain with his own problems. He went to Karnataka with a list and said that this much of abusive language used against him; he came here and said the same."

She also accused the BJP-led central government of waiving off loans availed by "big industrialists". "The BJP government is working only for big industrialists. Thousands of crores of rupees belonging to Adani ji are being waived off and the country's properties are being handed over to him. What could be bigger corruption than that you have taken the country's wealth and put it in the hands of an industrialist," Priyanka remarked.

It is noteworthy that the statement came a day after the Election Commission (EC) issued a show-cause notice to Priyanka for a similar remark against PM Modi. The notice was issued by the EC on the basis of a complaint filed by the BJP wherein the party has said that Priyanka had "made unverified and false statements in respect of PM Narendra Modi that have the potential to mislead the public and tarnish the image of PM".
The statement in question was allegedly made by Priyanka during her address at a public meeting in Madhya Pradesh's Sanwer. Madhya Pradesh is set to go to the polls to elect representatives for its 230-seat Legislative Assembly. Polling will be held in a single phase on November 17. The counting of votes will commence on December 3 and official results are expected to be declared by December 5, as per the Election Commission.
