Pune-Bengaluru Greenfield Expressway: The much-hyped Pune-Bengaluru Greenfield Expressway is reportedly set to get approval from the Union Cabinet in the first quarter of 2026. Earlier last month, the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) stated that the corridor is likely to boost the regional connectivity by cutting the travel time. It further stated that the expressway will also reduce the traffic congestion on the existing Pune–Bengaluru NH-48. While the concerned authorities have been waiting for the approval from 2023, the construction is soon likely to begin after the Union Cabinet approves the project.
While providing details, the officials stated that detailed land acquisition, alignment finalisation and groundwork will begin once the project is approved. Apart from this, the residents of Karnataka and Maharashtra have urged the central cabinet to approve the project, adding that it will significantly cut the travel time. “All the people from this region of Maharashtra and Karnataka are sincerely requesting quick approval of this crucial greenfield expressway project,” stakeholders were quoted as saying by Times Now.
The groundwork for the long-delayed project is likely to begin by the end of 2026 if it gets approved in the first quarter of the year. Earlier in April 2025, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari had also asserted that along with boosting the connectivity, the expressway will also improve the financial activities in both the key cities.
The officials asserted that the expressway will also reduce the pressure from the NH-48 as hundreds of commuters face inconveniences on a daily basis. Apart from this, the long-pending Mumbai-Pune Expressway missing link project is now in its final stage and is expected to open to the public in the coming months.

The Indian Express report cited a senior official from the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation as stating that most of the difficult construction work has been completed.
