The Barnala police have arrested three drug smugglers, recovering 2.007 kg of heroin and a foreign-made 9mm pistol from their possession. The police claim that the accused have links with drug and arms smugglers based in Pakistan. Currently, the police have taken the accused into custody and are interrogating them.
According to the police, the accused received funding worth lakhs of rupees through Hawala channels. This money was utilised for anti-national activities. Providing details, Patiala Range DIG Kuldeep Singh Chahal stated that the arrested individuals have been identified as Gagandeep alias Gagan, a resident of village Hamidi (District Barnala), Rajkaran Singh, a resident of Fazilka, and Saraj Singh, a resident of Faridkot.
A case has been registered against the trio for involvement in anti-national activities, drug smuggling, and possession of illegal weapons. The police stated that Gagandeep was arrested first, and 307 grams of a prohibited substance were recovered from him.
Tracing Others In The Network
Following Gagandeep's interrogation, the police arrested Rajkaran Singh and Saraj Singh. During the questioning of all the accused, a total of 2.007 kg of heroin and a pistol were recovered. The police are conducting further interrogations to identify other individuals connected to this network.
The DIG revealed that an analysis of their mobile phones and bank account details disclosed their connection to a Pakistan-based agent named 'Haji,' who used to issue instructions to them. On multiple occasions, the accused had also sent photographs of Indian BSF posts, police checkpoints, and several sensitive locations to Pakistan.

Accused Gagandeep Singh already has a total of four cases registered against him, including for drug smuggling, while Saraj Singh also has one case of drug smuggling registered against him. The officer stated that the police are investigating the matter in depth, and there is a strong possibility that more accused may be involved.
