Punjab Congress Crisis: Amid the ongoing internal rift within Punjab Congress, state in-charge Bhupesh Baghel on Wednesday reiterated that there will be no change in the state leadership. Baghel, following a meeting with Congress general secretary KC Venugopal in Delhi, asserted that change on a large scale is not a "game of dolls". A section of Punjab Congress, under the leadership of former CM Charanjit Channi, has been demanding the removal of Amrinder Raja Warring from the post of party state chief.
Report Submitted To Top Brass: Baghel
While talking to the reporters, Baghel stated that he has submitted a detailed report on the political situation in Punjab to Venugopal. The senior Congress leader further stated that the final decision will be taken by the party high command. A high-profile meeting was held at Venugopal's residence on Wednesday to reach a conclusion amid the internal crisis.
Apart from this, Pratap Singh Bajwa, Leader of the Opposition in the Punjab Assembly, also arrived in the national capital to meet Venugopal. Earlier on Tuesday, the senior leaders, including party president Mallikarjun Kharge; leader of opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi; and Venugopal, discussed the matter.
Channi To Soon Meet RaGa, Kharge
Channi, along with his supporters, is also arriving in Delhi to meet the party high-command, the sources revealed. The former chief minister is expected to meet Kharge and Rahul Gandhi either on Wednesday or in the early hours of Thursday. While a section has been pressing for the removal of Warring, the party is reluctant given his efforts to boost the organization in recent times.
Earlier on July 11, Channi demonstrated his strength by rallying 70 to 80 Congress leaders in his support during a meeting in Chandigarh, intensifying the talks of a possible change in the state leadership. Earlier in 2022 polls, the party faced a similar situation, leading to a humiliating loss against AAP. The experts believe that the party could face a similar result if the high command does not resolve the matter on time.
