State Bureau, Chandigarh: Amid the internal crisis in Punjab Congress, former chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi will hold a meeting with the party state in charge, Bhupesh Baghel, on Saturday. The high-profile meeting will be held at the residence of MLA Rana Gurjit Singh. Along with Channi, other senior leaders, including MP Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa and Leader of Opposition Pratap Singh Bajwa, will also attend the meeting.
Channi To Meet Baghel Today
In this key meeting, the Channi-led faction is likely to reiterate its demands for the removal of Amrinder Raja Warring from the post of state party president. Baghel has been in the state for the past five days and held several meetings with senior leaders, but Channi maintained a distance from these meetings. However, earlier on Friday, Channi agreed to meet Baghel but requested to not include Warring in the meeting.
As per the sources, the meeting is likely to be conducted in two rounds. While the Channi supporters will put their demands in the first round of meeting at Rana Gurjeet's residence, the conclusive talks will be held at Channi's residence. Earlier, Baghel asserted that all the senior leaders of Punjab will share the common stage after these meetings.
Will Raja Warring Be Removed?
The state in charge further asserted that he will not leave Punjab until the election is finished, adding that strict action will be taken against those who speak against the party line. He further stated that the election will be fought under the leadership of senior leader Rahul Gandhi and he will spend a significant amount of time in the state.
While talking to the reporters, Raja Warring stated that the high command has reappointed him as the state chief, adding that he will not tender his resignation. As per the reports, the high command of Congress has clarified that Raja Warring will not be removed from his post.
