Rajasthan Weather: Over the past few days, parts of Rajasthan are reeling under severe heat. The state is under the effect of a severe heatwave with temperatures soaring above 47 degrees in Ganganagar for two consecutive days. Heatwave conditions are likely to stay for the next few days. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for heatwaves for two days, June 11 and June 12. Meanwhile, West Rajasthan has been put on an orange alert for June 13. In East Rajasthan, a yellow alert is issued for the same day. The state is, however, expected to witness thunderstorm activity on June 15 and 16, bringing possible relief from the scorching heat. A drop in temperature is expected in eastern Rajasthan around June 18-20.
As per IMD, the weakening influence of recent western disturbances has left behind some moisture, intensifying the extreme heat. Cnditions are expected to worsen in the coming days as monsoon is yet to arrive in northwest India
"Severe heat conditions prevail in the Bikaner division and border areas of western Rajasthan. Ganganagar has recorded maximum temperatures above 47 degrees for two consecutive days. Maximum temperatures are also being recorded around 45 degrees in Shekhawati region, Jaipur division and Kota division... There will be no significant change in temperature in western Rajasthan due to dry weather for the next 5-6 days. Severe heat conditions will persist for the next 3 days in Ganganagar, Hanumangarh and areas around Bikaner and Churu. Heat wave conditions will also persist in eastern Rajasthan for the next 3-4 days. Due to the effect of eastern winds coming from the Bay of Bengal from June 15 to 16, thunderstorms and lightning activities may be recorded at some places in eastern Rajasthan. There is a possibility of light rain with thunder in some areas of Kota division and Bharatpur division on June 15-16 in the afternoon. After that on June 18-20 there is a possibility of a drop in temperature in eastern Rajasthan on May 25,” IMD scientist Radheshyam Sharma said, as quoted by ANI.
