Red Fort Blast Case: Delhi Court Allows NIA To Dispose Of Victims', Accused's Remains After 245 Days

A Delhi court on Monday permitted the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to cremate the remains of 11 people who were killed in the car bomb blast near the Red Fort in November last year.

Special Judge Pitambar Dutt also allowed the agency to bury the body parts of Dr Umar Un Nabi, who was driving the vehicle and died in the suicide blast.

The court said the mortal remains should be disposed of with dignity, keeping in mind the religious beliefs of the victims. It also sought a compliance report from the NIA on the implementation of its directions.

The NIA informed the court that forensic evidence had already been collected from the remains of the victims as well as the suicide bomber, Nabi. The agency had earlier sought permission to dispose of the remains, stating that they had started decomposing.

7,500-Page Chargesheet Filed

The NIA had filed a chargesheet of over 7,500 pages on May 14 in the IED blast case that had occurred in the national capital last November 10.

Last month, the NIA filed a supplementary charge sheet against three more people accused of involvement in the blast. These included an absconding paediatrician identified as a founding member of a terror module. The number of people named in the charge sheet in this case has risen to 13, including Nabi.
