What's The Incident
The members of the political party were enraged after they saw a bill of Rs 19,866 during the discharge. Following this, the Sena members allegedly assaulted and threatened the hospital staff present at the scene.
As per the complainant, Shiv Sena district chief Kundan Sankhe, city chief Rahul Gharat, and others had forcefully entered the emergency department and argued with the doctors. A receptionist who tried to intervene was seen being slapped, CCTV footage showed.
Some of them even barged into the intensive care unit (ICU), supposed to be a strictly restricted area to avoid contamination. According to the hospital staff, the mob threatened a nurse in the ICU, removed the IV drip of an injured 'Govinda', and took him away from the hospital.
How did the matter escalate?
Five members of a Govinda Mandal were injured while making a human pyramid during the Dahi Handi festival on Saturday. They were then admitted to the hospital.
One of them suffered serious head and spinal injuries. Doctors recommended a CT scan and further treatment, estimated to cost around 20,000 rupees. The organisers had even deposited Rs 10,000. However, the dispute escalated when the organisers questioned the need for the scan. and demanded the patient's discharge. Several Shiv Sena officials, including Kundan Sankhe, then arrived at the hospital, the complaint said.
Sena Leader Denies Allegations
Shiv Sena leader Kundan Sankhe denied all allegations levelled by the hospital. Sankhe claimed that the controversy arose because Govinda Mandal's patients had only minor injuries. The hospital was deliberately withholding their discharge. Sankhe said that party officials had gone to the hospital to resolve the issue of the patients' treatment and discharge.
