TN Kidnapping Case: The Supreme Court on June 19 handed over the investigation against TN ADGP HM Jayram to CB-CID. Earlier, the apex court expressed shock over the arrest and suspension of HM Jayram, saying, “He is a senior police officer. Where was the requirement for you to put him under suspension? These kinds of orders are shocking and demoralising.”
A bench comprising Justice Ujjal Bhuyan and Justice Manmohan passed the order of transferring the investigation case against Jayram to CB-CID. The order came while hearing the petition filed by ADGP HM Jayram challenging the Madras High Court’s decision to arrest him for investigation.

The Supreme Court also asked the Tamil Nadu government to transfer the case related to the abduction matter to another bench after Senior Advocate Siddharth Dave, representing the Tamil Nadu government, told the court that there are other allegations against HM Jayram.
Dave was told by the court to transfer the case to CB-CID, to which he did not object, PTI reported.
What Is The TN Kidnapping Case?
ADGP HM Jayram is alleged of abetting the abduction of a minor boy. A woman named Lakshmi filed a case of abduction of her son. Lakshmi’s elder son married a woman from another caste and went into hiding. On May 10, a group of people entered Lakshmi’s house and abducted her younger son. HM Jayram is accused of letting the use of vehicle by a group of people for the abduction of a minor boy. The group of people aimed at forcibly separating the inter-caste couple as they married each other without the approval of their families.
A few days later, the minor boy was found near a hotel with injuries. The woman’s father, a lawyer and now dismissed policewoman, were arrested in this abduction case. The accused also included MLA and ADGP Jayram in their statement. Jayram was arrested and suspended following the Madras High Court order, which came during the hearing bail plea filed by KV Kuppam MLA and Puratchi Bharatham Katchi leader “Poovai” M Jagan Moorthy. HM Jayram approached the Supreme Court seeking a stay on his arrest order. The SC agreed to hear his case.
