Chennai Rain: Private meteorologist Pradeep John has said that Chennai’s phase of heavy rainfall for this year has come to a close. Speaking at a public event in the city, John, known popularly as the Tamilnadu Weatherman, noted that only moderate rain is expected in Chennai on December 16 and 17.

Tamil Nadu Weather: Moderate Showers Expected In Delta and Southern Districts

He added that moderate showers may occur earlier across Puducherry, the Cuddalore delta and parts of southern Tamil Nadu on December 9 and 10. While Chennai will not see another round of intense rain this year, light to moderate showers may continue in the delta belt and in the southern districts.

Cyclone Titva’s Rainfall Shift Explained

John also commented on Cyclone Titva. He said the heavy rain expected on Sunday shifted to Monday, with areas around Chennai recording significant rainfall of up to 20 centimetres. Neighbouring districts such as Kanchipuram and Vellore, which were expected to receive stronger rain, recorded lower totals. However, he pointed out that the overall rainfall linked to a cyclone was met.

He further mentioned that the chance of a new cyclone forming remains low at the moment.

Tamil Nadu Weather: IMD Forecasts Rain and Thunderstorms Till December 13

Meanwhile, the Chennai Meteorological Department has predicted light to moderate rain across a few parts of Tamil Nadu till December 13. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has also said that several districts, especially those along the coast, may experience rain accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds in the coming days.

According to the IMD, continuous rainfall may cause waterlogging and possible power cuts in some areas. Residents have been advised to follow safety guidelines and limit outdoor movement where necessary.

Tamil Nadu Weather: Yellow Alert Issued

Rain has been forecast in Chennai, Coimbatore, Theni, Vellore, Puducherry, Karaikal, Sivaganga, Ranipet and Chengalpattu. A yellow alert has been issued for these regions.
