‘Thief, Thief’: Arrested TMC Leader Kajal Ghosh Pelted With Eggs Outside Siliguri Court

Jagran Correspondent | Siliguri: TMC leader Kajal Ghosh was pelted with eggs and received massive outrage as she was escorted to the Siliguri Subdivisional Court on Sunday. The crowd allegedly gathered around the court premises, shouting “thief, thief” as cops held her under tight security. Police arrested the TMC leader at Phansidewa in the Bidhannagar area on Saturday night.

What's the case?

As she appeared in court, the TMC leader asserted that she was a victim of a conspiracy. Kajal Ghosh stated that a tea factory, owned by a Kolkata resident, had been situated on the land since 1993.

In 2005, three individuals leased the land; however, a woman later claimed ownership, adding that she has held the lease for the last seven years. Ghosh contended that these developments strongly suggest she has been set up as part of a conspiracy.

Kalyani Goswami allegedly lodged a complaint at the Phansidewa police station, accusing Trinamool leader Kajal Ghosh of illegally occupying land in Bidhannagar.

Separate Incident

In a separate incident, TMC MLA Kunal Ghosh was targeted with an egg outside party supremo Mamata Banerjee's Kalighat residence in south Kolkata on Monday evening, shortly after he came out of the house.

A man, identified as Chandan, had allegedly thrown an egg at Ghosh from close range. Though Ghosh tried to duck, the egg hit his head and broke on impact, onlookers said.

Justifying his action, Chandan alleged that Ghosh had committed excesses. "He (Ghosh) deserves to be hit with eggs. He has committed many atrocities and done many wrong things," Chandan alleged.

The accused, who claimed to be a local, said, "He has done a lot of wrong. This is what he deserved. Everyone knows what he has done. There is nothing more to add." After making the remarks, he left the area.

Meanwhile, Ghosh had condemned the incident, describing it as a "planned act of hooliganism", and questioning the role of the police personnel present at the spot.
