Delhi Air Pollution: Delhi continues to grapple with worsening air quality, with the air quality index (AQI) staying in the ‘very poor’ category over the past week, prompting authorities to introduce anti-pollution measures to mitigate health risks.
According to Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data, the AQI in the national capital on Saturday morning remained in the ‘very poor’ category, with Delhi recording an overall AQI of 355 at 8 AM.
With the air quality remaining consistently poor in the national capital, the government has taken some measures to combat air pollution, such as banning non-Delhi BS-III goods vehicles, revising working hours for government offices, doubling parking charges and urging residents to use carpooling and public transport.

Ban On Non-Delhi BS-III Goods Vehicles
- Starting November 1, all non-Delhi-registered BS-III and below-standard commercial goods vehicles will be restricted from entering the national capital, as ordered by the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM)
- Under this rule, Non-Delhi-registered Light Goods Vehicles (LGVs), Medium Goods Vehicles (MGVs), and Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs) that fail to meet BS-IV standards will be barred from entering Delhi, news agency PTI reported.
- As per the CAQM, this move aims to reduce vehicular emissions and improve air quality in the national capital and surrounding areas.
Delhi Govt Announces New Office Timings
- Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Friday announced that the working hours of Delhi government offices and the Delhi Municipal Corporation (DMC) are being changed as a precautionary measure.
- During the winter months, from 15 November 2025 to 15 February 2025, staggered office timings will be implemented to evenly spread out traffic and prevent congestion.
- Currently, the timings for Delhi government offices are between 9:30 AM to 6:00 PM, while the DMC offices are between 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM.
CM Urges Carpooling, Public Transport
- The chief minister has urged residents to opt for carpooling and use public transport, such as the Delhi Metro, to reduce vehicular emissions and improve air quality.
- CM Gupta has also appealed to private firms to prioritise work from home arrangements in view of the ‘very poor’ AQI in Delhi.

NDMC Doubles Parking Fees
- The New Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) has doubled parking fees at sites managed by the civic body across the New Delhi area.
- The NDMC order stated that the parking fees have been “enhanced to double the existing fee till the revocation of Stage 2 of Grap.”
- The revised parking rates are: Rs 40 per hour for four-wheelers, Rs 20 per hour for two-wheelers, and Rs 300 per hour for buses.
- However, the hike does not apply to on-street parking or monthly pass holders.
These measures aim to curb rising air pollution and protect public health as Delhi battles persistently poor air quality.
