Heavy rainfall continued to lash parts of Tamil Nadu On Monday, leading to inundation in several areas including Kanyakumari. Reportedly one person died in Tuticorin in related instances. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a ‘heavy rain alert’ in the state for the next seven days.

The state, which reeled under the effect of Cyclone Michaung at the beginning of December is again witnessing inclement weather. The Manimuthar waterfall in Tamil Nadu's Tirunelveli has been swollen owing to the unabated rainfall in the region. The government declared a holiday for all schools, colleges and banks in four districts, Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Kanyakumari and Tenkasi.
Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Kanyakumari and Tenkasi are among the worst-hit districts. Meanwhile, IMD has predicted light rainfall in Chennai on Monday.

The state has requisitioned the services of the Army, Navy and Air Force, said the Chief Secretary, Shiv Das Meena. As many as 84 boats have been deployed for rescue and relief initiatives. Around 7,500 people were rescued and shifted to 84 relief camps.
