The Punjab government has introduced dedicated in-house counters at registry offices to liberate the system from middlemen and ensure transparency. Under this "Easy Registry" initiative, staff members help citizens complete the process for a nominal fee of only Rs 500.

Despite these measures, agents remain active and continue to exploit citizens. It is reported that some agents have "settings" with certain officials, allowing them to secure priority appointments for their clients ahead of others. This has allowed the middleman culture to thrive even within the new system.

Since the "Easy Registry" facility requires documents to be uploaded online, agents use this as a trap. They lure people by promising to save them from the hassle of document uploading and guaranteeing faster processing. For these services, they reportedly charge anywhere between Rs 5,000 to Rs 10,000.

What Is The "Easy Registry" Process?

The "Easy Registry" is an online facility designed to make property registration simple and accessible for citizens from the comfort of their homes or via Sewa Kendras. For a minimal fee of approximately Rs 500, the system provides deed preparation and allows documents to be submitted within 48 hours.

The process offers real-time updates via WhatsApp, eliminating the need for middlemen or frequent visits to the Tehsildar or Registrar’s office. By using this transparent and fast-tracked system, citizens can save both time and significant amounts of money.

The Application Procedure

Citizens can apply for property registration through the official portal eservices.punjab.gov.in or by visiting a Sewa Kendra.

Document Upload: Users must upload essential identification (Aadhaar, PAN), proof of ownership and other required documents online.

Payment: Fees are to be paid through the online portal.

Verification: Once submitted, verification officers review the documents within 48 hours.

Appointment: After successful verification, a time slot is allotted for the final registration.
