A fresh wave of controversy has hit Bihar’s political landscape after Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tej Pratap Yadav shared and later deleted, a Facebook post claiming he had been in a relationship for 12 years. The revelation came while he is still legally married to Aishwarya Rai, the granddaughter of former Bihar Chief Minister Daroga Rai, and currently undergoing divorce proceedings.
The now-viral post featured a photo of Tej Pratap with a woman identified as Anushka Yadav. The confession triggered widespread backlash, raising serious questions about the reasons behind his marriage to Aishwarya in 2018, despite an alleged long-term relationship elsewhere.
Amid the uproar, Aishwarya expressed deep anguish and questioned the motives of the Yadav family. "Why was my life ruined? Why was I beaten? Now they have suddenly had a social awakening," she said, clearly disturbed by the unfolding events.
As family tensions escalate, the issue has caused a political storm within the Yadav family itself. Party supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav responded by expelling his son Tej Pratap from the RJD for six years, calling his actions a violation of the family’s values. Tejashwi Yadav and Rohini Acharya have also distanced themselves from their brother.

Who Is Aishwarya Rai?
Aishwarya Rai comes from a distinguished political lineage. She is the daughter of Chandrika Rai, a six-time MLA and former cabinet minister in Bihar. Her grandfather, Daroga Prasad Rai, briefly served as the Chief Minister of Bihar. With strong family roots in state politics and a solid educational background, Aishwarya was considered a promising addition to the political landscape.
In stark contrast to Tej Pratap Yadav, who studied only up to Class 12, Aishwarya is well-educated and widely respected for her poise and intellect.

Education & Career Path
Aishwarya completed her schooling at Patna’s prestigious Notre Dame Academy. She earned a BA (Hons) in History from Daulat Ram College under Delhi University and later completed an MBA. She also considered a career in law before opting to pursue a post-graduate degree in social work from Amity University in Delhi, as reported by The Print.
The Grand Wedding of 2018
The wedding of Tej Pratap Yadav and Aishwarya Rai on May 12, 2018, was a grand affair. The lavish baarat included 200 cars, decorated horses, and brass bands, led by Tej Pratap's younger brother Tejashwi Yadav. Key figures like Lalu Prasad Yadav, Rabri Devi, and other family members were present.

The event saw nearly 7,000 guests, including Bihar CM Nitish Kumar, Governor Satya Pal Malik, and Union Minister Ram Vilas Paswan. Rooms in Patna’s top hotels and guesthouses were booked to accommodate the many VIP attendees.
Relationship Breakdown Soon After Marriage
Despite the grand celebrations, the couple's relationship deteriorated within a few months. Aishwarya accused Tej Pratap and his family of harassment and abuse. The divorce case remains unresolved in court.
After leaving the Yadav residence in 2018, Aishwarya lodged serious allegations of physical and emotional abuse against her husband, mother-in-law Rabri Devi, and sister-in-law Misa Bharti. She even filed a police complaint. In retaliation, Rabri Devi filed a counter-complaint accusing Aishwarya of misbehaving and causing distress.
Aishwarya claimed that Rabri Devi physically assaulted her and ordered women police officers to throw her out of the family home at 10 Circular Road, Patna.

“My mother-in-law got angry, slapped me and pulled my hair. The women police constables posted there were asked to throw me out. They dragged me out of the gate,” Rai told ThePrint, adding she was not even allowed to wear her slippers.
Tej Pratap’s Take on the Divorce
Tej Pratap described the relationship as a mismatch, calling himself a "simple man" and labelling Aishwarya as a "modern, metropolitan woman." He claimed the cultural and lifestyle differences led to constant disagreements and insisted he didn’t want to live unhappily. He also alleged that his family supported Aishwarya when he initiated divorce proceedings.

The Facebook Relationship Controversy
A fresh controversy erupted when a photo of Tej Pratap with a woman named Anushka Yadav surfaced on his Facebook account. The post claimed they had been in a relationship for 12 years, sparking questions about why he married Aishwarya in the first place.
Soon after, Tej Pratap claimed his Facebook account had been hacked and the viral photo was fake. However, by then, the damage had been done. The post triggered widespread criticism and raised doubts about his personal decisions and timing.
Lalu Yadav’s Disowns Tej Pratap
In a post on X (formerly twitter) Lalu Prasad on Sunday expelled his eldest son from the party for six years, citing ignorance of "moral values" in his personal life. Lalu said Tej Pratap’s behaviour does not align with the family’s values and traditions.
