ALSO KNOWN as Shiv Jayanti, Chhatrapati Shivaji Jayanti is celebrated to mark the birth anniversary of the Maratha emperor, Shivaji Maharaj. According to the Hindu Tithi, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti falls on March 10, while the birthday of Shivaji Maharaj as per the Gregorian calendar, is on February 19. This year, India will celebrate the 393rd birth anniversary of the great Maratha emperor.

He is also known to be the first Chhatrapati and founder of the Maratha Empire. Mahatma Jyotirao Phule established the celebration of Shiv Jayanti in Pune in 1870, and since then, this day is celebrated. Chhatrapati Shivaji was known for valour and bravery. He established a competent and liberal civil rule with well-structured administrative organisations.
