Raita is probably one of the most familiar Indian accompaniments that is part of many people's diet. Its cooling, soothing and digestive benefits make it a preferred choice, especially for those who want to maintain their gut health. The cooling, creamy condiment serves the dual purpose of pairing perfectly with the richness and spicy heat of our favourite curries, biryanis and parathas. With so many types of raita to choose from to take advantage of refreshing coolness, raita provides contrast.
Out of the many varieties of raita, cucumber raita and boondi raita are the two most distinctly popular types- each with its own flavour and texture. Here, we've drawn a comparison between the two that will help you know which one is gentler on your stomach.
Cucumber Raita
Cucumber raita is a nourishing, refreshing side dish with several health benefits. With 96% water content, a cucumber is a wonderful source of hydration for the body. It is a very low-calorie and low-fat side dish that would be wonderful as part of a weight loss program. Plus, cucumber contains fibre which will ease digestion and reduce bloating. The extremely cooling effect of cucumber raita on the stomach makes it a great side to spicy or heavy meals. Cucumber raita is a probiotic food that will boost immunity because of the yogurt while also improving heart health.

Boondi Raita
Boondi raita, a well-known version of traditional raita, has its own textures and taste. While it also has the protein benefit from the gram flour, fried boondi has more calories. You can even try to make boondi healthy by baking it or air-frying it. That said, the combination of fried boondi and yoghurt could cause some stomach discomfort in people with sensitive stomachs. But many consider this boondi raita as a healthy option as the yoghurt helps to counteract the greasiness of the fried boondi, making it a satisfying companion to meals.

CucumberRaita vs Boondi Raita: Which Is Gentler On Stomach?
If it comes down to cucumber or boondi raita, cucumber raita is much easier to digest and gentler on your stomach. Cucumber, with its high water content, low calorie count and proclivity to refreshingly cool, it can be eaten every day, especially if you have a sensitive tummy. Boondi raita and its fried boondis are heavier (better served to enjoy occasionally), so, feel free to serve them but don't feel guilty for choosing cucumber raita as the nutrient-rich accompaniment to your meal.
