In today’s time, young people have begun to consider a presentable appearance as an important factor for career growth. Conditions such as burn scars, old injury marks, birthmarks, vitiligo (white patches), and gynecomastia often lead to mental stress and a lack of self-confidence. To address these issues, many young individuals are turning to modern cosmetic procedures such as advanced laser technology, skin grafting, microsurgery, hair transplantation, and body contouring.

Speaking to Dainik Jagran, Dr. Vivek Gupta, Plastic Surgeon and owner of Minnerva Clinic & Medical center, said that a large number of young patients visiting his clinic had lost their self-confidence and were struggling with stress due to problems like burn scars and vitiligo (white patches). After undergoing laser treatment, skin grafting, and microsurgery, not only has their confidence been restored, but with renewed self-belief, they are also able to perform better professionally, resulting in higher productivity and career growth. Dr. Gupta added that many issues people feel hesitant or embarrassed to talk about can now be effectively treated with the help of cosmetic and plastic surgery.

According to a study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) Dermatology, nearly 89 percent of Indian vitiligo patients reported moderate to severe symptoms of depression.

“There are several problems that people hesitate to discuss openly. One such rapidly increasing condition is gynecomastia,” Dr. Gupta said. Rahul (name changed), a resident of Lucknow, had been suffering for a long time from gynecomastia—abnormal enlargement of breast tissue in males. More than physical discomfort, the condition had become a source of severe mental distress for him. Teasing remarks from friends and social embarrassment significantly reduced his self-confidence. After proper counselling, medical evaluation, and surgery, the treatment was successful, and within a short period, his body returned to a normal shape. Today, he is leading a normal life, Dr. Vivek Gupta added.

According to the global survey report by the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS), USA, India is rapidly emerging as a major hub in the field of aesthetic surgery. India ranks second in rhinoplasty and third in liposuction worldwide.

“Similarly, people are increasingly opting for contracture surgery to treat limbs that have become stiff after burns or accidents, modern and minimally painful surgeries for varicose veins, reconstructive surgeries following accidents or congenital deformities, and liposuction procedures for body shaping,” Dr. Vivek Gupta concluded.
