With the year coming to an end, Google has released its annual India’s Year in Search 2025 report and it reveals the name of India’s most searched destination and we are sure that the name of the winner will amaze you.

The annual Google report reflects what Indians were most curious about throughout the year. And this year, the Indian travellers have shown an inclination towards spiritual tourism. Beating all the mountains and beaches, India’s top travel search on Google is none other than the Maha Kumbh Mela. This once-in-144-year spiritual congregation at Prayagraj showcased the perfect blend of faith, culture and mass gathering that rewrote travel trends.

Why Maha Kumbh Mela Became India’s Top Travel Search On Google?

The Maha Kumbh Mela is one of the largest spiritual gatherings in the world, held every 12 years at four sacred locations in India: Prayagraj, Haridwar, Ujjain and Nashik. In 2025, the centuries-old gathering was held in Prayagraj as millions of devotees came together to take a ritual bath in holy rivers, which is believed to cleanse sins and bring spiritual liberation. This year, Maha Kumbh Mela became India’s top travel search on Google because it offered something deeper than a traditional holiday. In times when people are seeking connection, meaning and cultural grounding, the Mela emerged as a destination that promised all three.

According to Dr Vikram Kamat, chairman and managing director of The VITS Kamats Group, in an interview with India Today, “Earlier, spiritual tourism was seen as something primarily for the elderly. But the 2025 Maha Kumbh has attracted younger generations, who are now forging a lifelong bond with India’s spiritual traditions.”
