New Delhi | Jagran News Desk: The world is about to witness the first Lunar Eclipse of this New Year 2020. A Lunar Eclipse means the arrival of the Moon, Earth and Sun in one line. When the three celestial bodies came in one line, the sunlight does not fall on the moon and full or partial shadow of the earth falls on the moon causing the Lunar Eclipse.

According to religious traditions, lunar eclipse and solar eclipse are not considered auspicious, but according to scientists, this is completely normal. The first lunar eclipse of this year is going to fall on tomorrow i.e. January 10. It is a sublunary lunar eclipse and will start at 10:37 pm and will continue to be visible till 2:42 am on 11 January.

Astronomical phenomena for scientists, inauspicious in scriptures

Being an astronomical phenomenon, eclipse holds special significance for scientists. Scientists make many calculations during this period. The lunar eclipse can also be seen with bare eyes. However, according to religious belief, it is not considered auspicious to see the lunar eclipse with bare eyes. Pregnant women are advised to take special precautions during the eclipse. According to scriptures, one should not sleep during a lunar eclipse. Eating, worshipping, combing, brushing, bathing and going out of the house is also prohibited.

Penumbral Lunar Eclipse

In a penumbral lunar eclipse, the Moon moves through a portion of the Earth's outer shadow. The Earth restricts or obstructs the sunlight from reaching the Moon. The January 10 penumbral lunar eclipse is one of the four lunar eclipses that will take place in the year. On the night of Friday, January 10, 2020, most part of the Moon will be partially shaded by the Earth, resulting in a slight shadow across the Moon's disc.

Lunar eclipse can also be seen with bare eyes

The solar eclipse is forbidden to be seen with the bare eye, but it is not so with the lunar eclipse. Yes, if you watch the lunar eclipse with the help of telescopes, you will get a wonderful view, which you will rarely forget. If you want to see the lunar eclipse, then all you have to do now is wait a few hours. After 10 January, the lunar eclipse is going to happen on 5 June, 5 July and then 30 November this year.
