ADHD Disorder Causes: Recently, Alia Bhatt courageously revealed her struggle with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) during 'Jigra' promotions, shedding light on the lesser-known condition. Her openness has really inspired others to seek help and promote mental health awareness. In her interview with Lallantop, she said "I used to get zoned out from a young age. I used to get zoned out in the classroom or during conversations. Recently, I did a psychological test and found out that I am high on the ADHD spectrum. I have ADHD - Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder. Whenever I told about this to my friends, they were like, ‘We always knew’. This is not some sort of revelation. But, I didn't know.
She further added, “Then, I understood why I am at peace in front of the camera. I'm most present in that moment. Whenever I am in front of the camera, I am present as the character I am playing. And I'm most present in that moment. And now after Raha, when I am with her, I am most present. These are the two moments in my life where I am more peaceful."
In one of her interviews, she also said, "On my wedding day, my makeup artist, Puneet B Saini was like, 'Alia, this time, you need to give me two hours'. I told her, 'You've lost it, especially on my wedding day, I'm not giving two hours because I want to chill. It needs to be something that you can do very quickly. I have ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder) and don't have interest in investing too much time.'" Now, let's understand what is ADHD.
What is ADHD Disorder?
According to the National Institute of Mental Health, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Syndrome (ADHD) is a developmental disorder marked by persistent symptoms of inattention and/or hyperactivity and impulsivity that interfere with functioning or development. People with ADHD face persistent challenges with inattention (distractibility, disorganisation), hyperactivity (restlessness, fidgeting), and impulsivity (interrupting, impulsive decisions).
ADHD Signs And Symptoms
ADHD symptoms vary across ages such as in children the most common symptoms include hyperactivity and impulsivity. Teenagers face struggles with time management, restlessness and fidgeting while adults deal with frustration and stress, mood swings, procrastination and difficulty in sustaining focus.
ADHD Treatment
Effective ADHD treatment combines medication, psychotherapy and behavioural interventions. Medications (stimulants, non-stimulants) manage symptoms. Psychotherapy (cognitive-behavioural, behavioural) enhances coping skills. Behavioural interventions include lifestyle changes (exercise, sleep hygiene), social skills training and environmental modifications (structured routines, organization strategies). A tailored approach optimises results while improving functioning and quality of life.
