Jack Lang, the French Ministry of Culture, along with music composer Maurice Fleure, a radio producer and a music journalist in 1981, proposed the idea of celebrating a day dedicated to music. In 1982, the first Fête de la Musique took place in Paris, where more than 1000 musicians came together to perform throughout the city.
