Mumbai-Ahmedabad Highway Traffic Advisory: Heavy Vehicles Banned For Next 2 Days For 'Long March'; Check Alternative Routes

Mumbai-Ahmedabad Highway Traffic Alert: Commuters travelling between Mumbai and Gujarat should prepare for significant traffic disruptions as heavy vehicles have been banned on the Palghar-Mumbai Ahmedabad National Highway for the next two days. These vehicular restrictions are due to a "Long March" organised by the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and the Kisan Sabha, involving over 50,000 farmers and labourers.

According to a News18 report, the Long March will start from Charoti in Dahanu and is expected to reach the Palghar District Collector’s office the following day, prompting traffic authorities to divert heavy vehicles to prevent congestion.

Mumbai-Ahmedabad Highway Traffic Alert: Check Restrictions

- In view of the Long March organised by the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and the Kisan Sabha, the Maharashtra government has banned heavy and extra-heavy vehicles coming from Gujarat toward Palghar, Thane, and Mumbai on January 19 and 20.

- On January 19, 2026, restrictions will be in effect from 8 AM to 10 PM, followed by similar restrictions on January 20 from 6 AM to 72PM.

- Authorities have asked drivers of heavy vehicles to plan ahead and utilise alternative routes to avoid delays during this period.

Alternative Routes For Heavy Vehicles

- Drivers of heavy vehicles have been advised to avoid traditional routes as they are expected to face severe congestion from large crowds of marchers and vehicles over the next two days.

- During this period, all heavy vehicles will be halted at Acchad Naka and redirected through local routes, such as Palghar Char Rasta, Kokaner Gaon, Gundale, Man, and Boisar.

- Emergency vehicles, including those from the police, fire brigade, revenue department, and ambulances and emergency services, are strictly exempt from these bans.

- Police have been strategically deployed to manage local roads and monitor the Palghar-Mumbai Ahmedabad National Highway to keep traffic moving.
