As rain battered Mumbai on Saturday, flight disruption was reported at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (Mumbai Airport). Due to heavy rainfall, over 350 flights were delayed, and two were diverted.

According to a report by Hindustan Times, 15 flights had to go around due to unfavourable weather. The two flights were diverted to Nagpur and Ahmedabad. The diversions and go-arounds were made from midnight to 6:00 am on Saturday.

According to Flightradar24 data, 3 flights were cancelled on Saturday at the Mumbai Airport. At around 8:56 pm, there were 328 flights delayed.

Mumbai received rain throughout the day after it started at around 1:00 am. Some parts of the city recorded over 20 cm of rainfall.

Meanwhile, a major accident was also averted at the Mumbai airport as an IndiGo Airbus A321 experienced a tail strike during a low-altitude go-around. The incident took place at 3:06 AM when flight 6E 1060, operated by an Airbus A321 Neo, was landing on runway 27.

IndiGo issued a statement saying, "On August 16, 2025, an IndiGo Airbus A321 aircraft tail touched the runway while executing a low-altitude go-around due to unfavourable weather conditions in Mumbai. Thereafter, the aircraft carried out another approach and landed safely."

The airline added that the aircraft will go through necessary repairs, checks and will undergo regulatory clearance before the next operation.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has taken note of the incident. "We will be undertaking an investigation on this incident. A formal order will be issued," a senior DGCA official confirmed. 

The IMD issued a red alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall on Saturday. The rainfall is likely to continue as the weather department has issued an orange alert for heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning in the city till August 20.
