Mumbai Metro Update: In a bid to accelerate the ongoing metro projects in the state, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is looking to open the Metro Line 9 (stretching from Dahisar East to Kashigaon section) and Metro Line 2B (Diamond Garden to Mandale section).

According to MMRDA officials cited by the Hindustan Times, the initial phases of the two key metro corridors are nearly ready for launch and clearance for both segments is expected to be completed by December 31. Both stretches that will be opened are part of the first phase of the two metro lines.

A portion of line 9, between Dahisar East and Kashigaon, and a part of line 2B, between Diamond Garden and Mandale, will be operationalised by December 31, MMRDA officials confirmed.

Metro Line 9: Project Details

- Length: 13.58 km

- Type: Elevated corridor

- The Metro Line is an extension of line 7, which connects Dahisar East with Mira-Bhayandar.

According to Hindustan Times, quoting a source said the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) is likely to give a go-ahead to line 9, keeping in mind the enforcement of the model code of conduct for the local body polls. The two lines will likely be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the source added.

Mumbai Metro Line 2B: Project Details

- Trial run for the first phase, 5.3 km between Mandale and Diamond Garden in Chembur, is currently underway.

- Once completed, the Line 2B will run from DN Nagar to Diamond Garden in Chembur.
