Mumbai Stampede:  Nine people were injured when a stampede broke out at Mumbai's Bandra Terminus on Sunday morning. The incident occurred on Platform 1, just before the departure of the Bandra-Gorakhpur Express, as a large crowd had gathered to head home for Diwali. A sudden surge in the crowd caused the ensuing chaos.

“Due to rush on platform number 1 of Bandra Terminus, 9 people have been injured in a stampede. Injured passengers have been shifted to a hospital,” news agency ANI quoted BMC as saying.

Dr Ritesh, a medical officer at Bandra Bhabha Hospital, confirmed that nine people were admitted with injuries resulting from the stampede. While most are reported to be in stable condition, two individuals--Noor Mohammad Shaikh and Indrajith Sahani--are still in critical condition, as per Mid Day.

Train number 22921 from Bandra to Gorakhpur arrived at platform number 1, drawing a large crowd of passengers eager to board. The weekly train to Gorakhpur had been rescheduled to depart at 5:10 am, but it arrived later than expected. By 3:00 am, a significant crowd had gathered on the platform. As passengers rushed to board the general compartment, the situation escalated, resulting in a stampede.

Those injured have been identified as Shabhir Abdul Rehman (40), Parmeshwar Sukhdar Gupta (28), Ravindra Harihar Chuma (30), Ramsevak Ravindra Prasad Prajapati (29), Sanjay Tilakram Kangay (27), Divyanshu Yogendra Yadav (18), Mohammad Shareef Shaikh (25), Indrajith Sahani (19) and Noor Mohammad Shaikh (18), PTI reported citing officials.
