The woman, Ekta Gupta, had been reported missing on June 24, and the police investigation later confirmed her death. DCP (North Kanpur) Shravan Kumar Singh told reporters that the woman became distressed after learning that Vimal Soni's marriage had been arranged. On the day of the incident, she visited the gym after a 20-day gap and the two went to his car to talk. However, an argument broke out, during which Soni struck her in the neck, causing her to lose consciousness. She was later killed by him.
Rahul Gupta, husband of the victim, told police his wife went to the gym at Green Park Stadium on June 24, as part of her regular routine. However, she never returned home that day. He filed a complaint at Kotwali Police Station, accusing gym trainer Vimal Soni, a resident of Shakkar Mill Khalwa, Raipurwa, of luring and taking his wife away. He alleged that the trainer gave her a spiked protein shake and later drove her away in a car, as per a report in Amar Ujala.
DCP Singh said it was difficult for them to trace the man as he had not been using a mobile phone. Police teams were dispatched to Pune, Agra and Punjab for investigation. However, it's still not clear whether the accused took the jewellery that the woman was wearing during the incident.
