Mumbai Water Cut Alert: Water supply will be temporarily halted in parts of five civic wards for nearly 48 hours starting January 20, as the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation carries out essential pipeline connection work. The shutdown is linked to the final works, which were pending on a cross-connection of a diverted section of the 2,400 mm Upper Vaitarna main water pipeline in the K East Ward. The pipeline had to be rerouted to accommodate construction works for the MMRDA’s Metro Line 7A.
For How Many Hours Water Will Be Suspended?
According to civic authorities, quoted by Mid-Day, the water supply will be suspended from 9 am on Tuesday, January 20, to 5 am on Thursday, January 22, spanning a total of 44 hours. During this period, the water supply will either be reduced or completely shut off in the affected regions.
Mumbai Water Cut: Affected Areas
- G North Ward: Morning and evening supplies will receive low pressure on January 20 and 21 in areas like Dharavi.
- K East Ward: Water supply will be fully suspended on January 20 and 21 across several areas, including MIDC, Marol, Chakala, the airport vicinity, SEEPZ, and adjoining residential and industrial belts. In certain pockets, limited water supply at reduced pressure will be provided during the evening, while areas that normally receive water in the early morning will continue to face a shutdown on January 21.
- S Ward: Areas like Moraji Nagar, Gautab Nagar, Jaybhim Nagr and Best Nagar in S Ward will face a complete shutdown of water supplies.
- H East Ward: Water supply to the entire Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) and the Motilal Nagar in the H East Ward will be available only late at night, and that too at reduced speed on January 20 and 21.
- N Ward: Residential areas of N Ward, like Godrej Compound, R City Mall, Kailash Complex, and adjoining localities, will receive water supply at reduced speed at regular timings on January 20 and 21.
Advisory For Citizens
The BMC has advised citizens to store water to avoid any inconvenience, especially for those who are residing in the S Ward, where a complete shutdown of the water supply will be there for nearly 48-hours.
