Mumbai Weather: Mumbai: Overcast skies and frequent rain spells continued to drench Mumbai and its neighbouring districts, including Thane, on Saturday. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) extended its yellow alert in the region till Tuesday morning, warning of continued rainfall and thunderstorms in the coming days.

Mumbai Rain: Heavy Overnight Showers Recorded

Friday night saw intense downpours, with parts of south Mumbai recording over 50 mm of rain within an hour, leading to brief waterlogging in several areas. On Saturday, light to moderate rainfall continued intermittently across Navi Mumbai, Thane, and the western suburbs, keeping the city under cloudy conditions through the day.

Mumbai Weather Forecast: Thunderstorms And Winds Likely Till October 28

According to the IMD, heavy rainfall and thunderstorms are likely to continue in the region until at least October 28, with Mumbai, Thane, Palghar and Raigad districts under a yellow alert due to the possibility of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching up to 50 kmph. While no alerts have been issued beyond Tuesday, light rainfall is expected to persist across the city till the end of the month.

Depression Over Arabian Sea Behind Mumbai Rain

IMD scientists attributed the unseasonal showers to a depression over the southeast Arabian Sea and a well-marked low-pressure system over the southwest Bay of Bengal. “Under the influence of these systems, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty wind speed reaching 40–50 kmph are very likely to occur over Maharashtra between October 22 and 26. Fairly widespread to widespread moderate rainfall activity with heavy rainfall at isolated places is expected over Konkan and Madhya Maharashtra during this period,” the IMD said in its statement.
