An 18-year-old Class 12 student has been arrested in Pune after he allegedly attempted to attack a schoolgirl with a knife in connection with a reported case of stalking, according to the Satara police on Monday.
According to the police, the accused, identified as Aryan Waghmale, allegedly confronted the girl around 3:30 pm in the Basappa Peth Karanje area as she was returning home from school. He reportedly threatened her with a knife and attempted to keep bystanders away by brandishing the weapon. Several locals, along with two off-duty police personnel who happened to be nearby, intervened to stop the attack.
A doctor managed to overpower Waghmale from behind, helping to rescue the girl. Before he was taken into custody, the angry crowd assaulted the accused.
In the video clip, the youth is seen tightly holding the minor girl while members of the public try to reason with him, urging him to release her. Amid the tense situation, a man displayed courage, and a coordinated distraction by the onlookers helped prevent a potential attack on the girl.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the accused had been stalking the girl for several months, even after she cut off all communication with him in January. Shahupuri Police Station has registered a case against him under charges of molestation, attempted kidnapping, relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, and Section 117(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
