Aja Ekadashi 2023: The auspicious fast of Aja Ekadashi takes place during the Krishna Paksha (the dark fortnight of the moon) in the Hindu Bhadrapada month. This Ekadashi is also known as the 'Ananda Ekadashi'. The Aja Ekadashi fast is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and His consort, Goddess Lakshmi. This vrat is considered the most beneficial among Hindus. Aja Ekadashi is celebrated with enthusiasm and commitment throughout the country. This year, the fast of Aja Ekadashi will be observed on 10th September, 2023.

Aja Ekadashi 2023 Significance 

Since ancient times, people have comprehended the significance of Aja Ekadashi. The 'Brahmavaivarta Purana' tells the story of Lord Krishna explaining the importance of this vrat to Yudhisthira, the eldest Pandava. Even Raja Harishchandra performed in this vrat, which helped him regain his lost realm and dead son. 

This vrat encourages a person to follow a road to salvation to break free from the cycle of birth and death. The Aja Ekadashi vrat observer must control their body, emotions, behaviour, and eating habits. 

The Hindu Puranas and sacred texts state that all of a person's present-life misdeeds will be forgiven if they observe the Aja Ekadashi vrat with complete devotion.  The observer will also be blessed with prosperity and happiness. After death, they will be escorted to Lord Vishnu's abode, "Vaikuntha".

Aja Ekadashi 2023 Vrat Katha 

When the great Saint Vishwamitra challenged the renowned King Harishchandra, who was famed for his remarkable honesty, he lost his kingdom. He relocated to Kashi, where he was forced to sacrifice his wife and son under peculiar circumstances. He also had to serve a demon. The King remained in this problematic state for a long time before growing weary of his woes. When he told Saint Gautam about his predicament, he was advised to follow the Aja Ekadashi Vrat for Lord Vishnu. The King observed the fast and attained freedom from his sins with immense devotion. He is also said to have brought his deceased kid back to life, along with his wife and kingdom.
