Amla Ekadashi 2024: On the eleventh day of the Shukla Paksha in the Phalguna month, Hindus observe the Amalaki Ekadashi vrat. On this sacred day, the devotees of Lord Vishnu worship the Amla Tree or gooseberry. According to sacred Hindu texts, the amla tree is highly significant since it is said that Lord Vishnu created it on the same day that he gave birth to Lord Brahma, who created the cosmos. This year, Amla Ekadashi vrat is being observed today on 20th March 2024.

Amla Ekadashi 2024: Why Amla Tree Is Worshipped On Amalaki Ekadashi? 

It is believed that the Amla tree is the abode of both Lord Vishnu and Mahadev. There is also a popular legend related to the goddess Lakshmi. In this legend, Goddess Lakshmi is said to have been the first to worship the Amla tree. According to the legend, Mata Lakshmi felt like worshipping Lord Vishnu and Lord Mahadev together, hence, she worshipped the Amla Tree. Soon, she discovered that the Amla tree possesses the qualities of the sacred Tulsi plant.

Following that, Mata Lakshmi worshipped the gooseberry as an incarnation of Bholenath and Lord Vishnu. The gooseberry tree has been revered ever since. In addition to Amla Ekadashi, this tree is worshipped as a representation of Lord Shiva and Narayan on Amla Navami, which falls during the month of Kartik. It is said that by doing this, one receives the benefits of both and experiences abundance in all areas of life, including health, riches, happiness, and prosperity.

In addition, the person who worships the gooseberry tree and observes the Amalaki Ekadashi vrat is freed from all Karmic debts and persistent problems.
