According to the Skanda Purana, offering a lamp to Lord Vishnu during Kartik destroys sins accumulated over millions of births.
The Puranas also describe the virtues of Kartik month, highlighting the significance of devotion and worship during this month. A person who lights a lamp in a temple, even briefly, is said to have their sins erased. Observing the month with austerity, such as eating once a day, brings fame, power, and heroism. Recite the Damodarashtam prayer while offering the lamp with a specific ritual: 4 rounds at His Lotus feet, 2 at His navel, 3 at His face, and 7 rounds around His entire body, embracing the divine with love and reverence.
