Margashirsha Purnima, which falls on the full moon day of the Margashirsha month, is a highly significant day. The Moon is in its waning phase on this lucky day. Additionally, many think it has a very positive impact on both the body and the mind. It is considered to be a very auspicious and spiritually significant period for people to do religious ceremonies such as yagnas and pujas. 

For individuals aiming for spiritual awakening or enlightenment, this day holds particular significance. It is thought that the power of meditation and other spiritual disciplines becomes more effective on this day due to the energy of the full moon. Thus, it's an ideal opportunity for spiritual seekers to go deeper in their practice and establish a deeper connection with their inner selves. It is also believed that Lord Vishnu took Matasya Avatar on this day. Hence, worshipping Lord Vishnu along with Lord Shiva on this day is considered highly auspicious. 

Margashirsha Purnima 2023: Rituals Associated With This Sacred Day 

- The devotee must bathe, get dressed in clean clothes, and rise early in the morning. After that, people must worship Lord Vishnu and offer a lamp or diya in front of his statue. The devotee should recite the Vishnu Sahasranama and offer flowers, fruits, sweets, and incense sticks to the lord.

- Following the puja, the devotee must observe a fast for the remaining day, consuming only fruits, milk, and water. Additionally, people think that this Vrat aids in mental and physical purification. Additionally, it helps the devotee find calm and peace. 

- The devotee must recite the Margashirsha Purnima Vrat Katha in the evening. It tells the tale of Matsya Avatar, Lord Vishnu's incarnation. With complete dedication, the devotee should hear the story and offer Lord Vishnu's aarti. The devotees must break the fast by consuming the prasad offered to Lord Vishnu.
