Purnima December 2024: In the Hindu calendar, Margashirsha is the ninth and most auspicious month. The full moon day, Margashirsha Purnima, is a special occasion when devotees worship Lord Moon, believed to be blessed with Amrit, the divine nectar. Purnima December 2024: Margashirsha Purnima Significance

In Hinduism, Margashirsha Purnima is a highly auspicious day. According to legend, Lord Vishnu transformed into a fish called Matsya to save the universe from a devastating flood. Devotees of Lord Vishnu believe that fasting on this day brings them blessings and spiritual growth.

This day also marks the descent of the sacred Ganga River to Earth. Devotees take a dip in the holy river and perform rituals to purify their sins and receive spiritual blessings. The Ganga is revered as a symbol of purity and divinity, and its presence on this day is believed to bring spiritual upliftment. By worshipping the Ganga, devotees seek to cleanse their souls and connect with the divine.

Purnima December 2024: Margashirsha Purnima Rituals

Devotees begin the Margashirsha Purnima vrat by waking up early and taking a purifying bath in a sacred river, ideally the Ganga. This act cleanses your body and washes away sins. Many devotees also observe a day-long fast or a partial fast, eating only fruits and milk, to appease Lord Vishnu.

Next, worship Lord Vishnu by decorating his idol or picture with flowers, sandalwood paste, and incense sticks. Recite the Vishnu Sahasranama and sing holy hymns during the puja. Additionally, worship Goddess Ganga and Lord Shiva as part of the celebrations.

Finally, show your kindness by giving donations and helping those in need. This selfless act is a significant part of the Margashirsha Purnima celebrations, bringing you blessings and good fortune.
