Purnima March 2025: Falgun Purnima Significance
Falgun Purnima is a sacred day dedicated to the Moon God and Lord Vishnu. On this day, devotees engage in devotional practices, invoking the names of these deities to attain happiness and relief from past sins and troubles. It's believed that Lord Vishnu and the Moon God bless devotees with prosperity and help them achieve their dreams.
Phalgun Purnima is also associated with other significant celebrations, including Holika Dahan and Laxmi Jayanti. Devotees who observe the Falgun month fast on Purnima are believed to receive the blessings of Lord Vishnu, the Moon God and the grace of Goddess Laxmi. This day is considered highly auspicious, offering devotees a chance to connect with the divine and seek prosperity and happiness.

Purnima March 2025: Falgun Purnima Rituals
On Falgun Purnima, devotees start their day early with a sacred bath, followed by wearing fresh clothes. They then begin their fast, demonstrating their devotion and commitment. After their bath, they perform Vishnu Puja, offering prayers to Lord Vishnu for a happy and fulfilling life.
The day's rituals continue with the recitation and listening of Satyanarayan Katha, accompanied by offerings to Lord Vishnu. Some devotees also chant the auspicious Gayatri Mantra which is believed to bring happiness and success. Additionally, making donations on this day is considered a virtuous act as Purnima days are deemed highly auspicious.
As the Moon rises, devotees offer Arghya to the Moon God. Following this, they perform a Puja dedicated to Chandrama after which they can break their fast. This sacred day is filled with meaningful rituals and practices, allowing devotees to connect with the divine and seek blessings for a prosperous life.
Purnima March 2025: Falgun Purnima Vrat Katha
Falgun Purnima is a significant day for worshipping Lord Vishnu. The Falgun Purnima Katha narrates the story of Hiranyakashyap and his son Prahlad, a devout follower of Lord Vishnu. Hiranyakashyap, who considered Lord Vishnu his enemy, tried to kill Prahlad for his devotion. However, Lord Vishnu intervened and saved Prahlad each time.
Hiranyakashyap devised a plan to kill Prahlad by asking his sister Holika to take Prahlad on her lap and sit in a fire. Holika had been granted a boon by Lord Brahma, making her fireproof. However, with Lord Vishnu's blessings, Prahlad was saved, and Holika was burned instead.
This legendary story symbolises the triumph of good over evil, celebrated during Holi. On this day, Holika Dahan is performed, where a bonfire is lit, typically made from cow dung and sticks. After the ceremony, a Puja is conducted at an auspicious time, marking the victory of righteousness and devotion.
