This event is organised by the Sri Thyagabrahma Mahotsava Sabha and takes place at the samadhi (memorial) of the saint in Thiruvaiyaru village, Tamil Nadu.

The current format of the Aradhana has a relatively recent history, dating back less than a century. Following Thyagaraja's death in 1847, his disciples returned to their villages and observed his death anniversary privately. However, in 1903, two of Thyagaraja's last surviving students, Umayalpuram Krishna Bhagavatar and Sundara Bhagavatar, visited the neglected memorial and arranged for its renovation.

Since then, efforts have been made by musical stalwarts to observe the death anniversary regularly at Thiruvayyaru, providing an opportunity for Thyagaraja's followers to gather and interact. This annual celebration has become an important event, honouring the legacy of the revered saint composer.

During the Thyagaraja Aradhana, devotees and musicians gather at the samadhi of the saint in Thiruvaiyaru to pay their respects. The devotees then offer flowers, fruits and other offerings to the idol, seeking the saint's blessings.
