Reliance Jio has partnered with SpaceX to introduce Starlink’s broadband internet services in India, following Airtel’s announcement of a similar partnership just a day before. This agreement, announced on Wednesday, aims to make Starlink's broadband services available through Jio's retail outlets and online platforms.
The deal is contingent on SpaceX obtaining the necessary approvals to sell Starlink in India. Jio Platforms Limited (JPL) will work alongside SpaceX to explore how the satellite internet service can enhance Jio's current offerings, while also identifying ways Jio can support SpaceX's services for both consumers and businesses.

“Ensuring that every Indian, no matter where they live, has access to affordable and high-speed broadband remains Jio's top priority,” said Mathew Oommen, Group CEO of Reliance Jio. He further added that integrating Starlink into Jio’s broadband ecosystem would enhance connectivity, especially in challenging locations, supporting businesses, communities and individuals.

The collaboration aligns with Jio’s commitment to expanding internet services, complementing existing offerings like JioFiber and JioAirFiber. This move will help extend high-speed internet quickly and affordably to areas that face infrastructure challenges.
“We are excited to work with Jio and look forward to receiving authorisation from the Government of India to expand Starlink’s services in the country,” said Gwynne Shotwell, President and COO of SpaceX.
The partnership follows a prior disagreement between the companies regarding spectrum allocation for satellite services in India. Reliance had advocated for an auction, while the Indian government supported Musk’s preference for an administrative allocation in line with global trends.
Earlier this week, Airtel also announced its own deal with SpaceX to bring Starlink internet to India. Both agreements are contingent on regulatory approvals, with the goal of improving connectivity across the country, particularly in rural regions.
