JE Technology Desk: As the tech fraternity is cheering for the highly anticipated iPhone 15 series in India, there is a piece of bad news for those looking to buy the upcoming iPhone SE model. We say this because the fourth generation of the iPhone SE might not debut this year or even in 2024.
According to a Macrumors report, Barclays analysts Blayne Curtis and Tom O'Malley speculate that a fourth-generation iPhone SE may not materialise even in 2024. The conclusion comes after "multiple conversations" with firms involved in the supply chain of the smartphone maker.

As per the research shared by the analysts, this decision also indicates that Apple's custom 5G modem is not replacing modems from Qualcomm at any time on upcoming iPhones. For context, the tech giant is working to bring its in-house networking modems from 2018. Ming-Chi Kuo, TF International Securities analyst and a reputed name for Apple-related leaks shared that the company may start mass producing the model in early 2025.
Kuo adds that the iPhone 16 series that will likely debut in 2024 will also ship with Qualcomm counterparts. The analyst also claimed the upcoming SE model could have an iPhone 14-like design and have a 6.1-inch OLED screen and Face ID.
Speaking of the latest iPhone SE, the smartphone launched in 2022. It has a 4.7-inch IPS LCD screen, an A15 Bionic chip, iOS 16, a 12MP primary back camera, a 7MP selfie shooter and an IP67 rating. It also supports Touch ID via the fingerprint reader. The iPhone SE has a starting price of Rs 49,990 on the Apple India website.
Among the reasons for the reduced demand for the phone are the massive display bezels, considering modern smartphones come with over 90 per cent screen-to-body ratio. Another possible reason why the company is scrapping the series is the reduced demand for compact smartphones across the globe.
Meanwhile, Apple will likely announce the iPhone 15 series in India in September this year with a set of new upgrades. You can read more on this here.
