iOS 18.4 Beta 4: Apple has just released iOS 18.4 Beta 4, making it available to developers and beta testers. While this update doesn’t introduce any major new features, it primarily focuses on bug fixes and performance improvements. Key areas addressed include Apple Intelligence, Siri, and Notifications, along with a new Nearby Interaction feature for apps that support Live Activities.

Introducing Nearby Interaction for Live Activities

One notable addition is Nearby Interaction, which allows apps that support Live Activities to use Ultra Wideband (UWB) technology. This enables apps to determine the distance between devices in real time, enhancing certain location-based features.

Bug Fixes and Improvements

Apple’s changelog highlights that iOS 18.4 Beta 4 resolves three key issues related to Apple Intelligence, the company’s AI-powered suite. Previously, users encountered problems such as:

Apple Intelligence features being unavailable or stuck on a “Downloading support…” message.
A requirement to enable Siri for using Apple Intelligence in non-English (US) languages.
A need to restart the device for AI features to function properly. With this update, Apple has reportedly addressed all of these issues.

Fixes for Notifications and Siri

The update also fixes a problem where notifications would flicker or collapse momentarily. Additionally, some Siri suggestions failed to work correctly in non-English languages, an issue that has now been resolved.

Other Fixes and Upcoming Release

The update also includes improvements for SwiftUI, StoreKit, UIWritingToolsCoordinator, Wi-Fi calling, and Writing Tools. Apple has also ironed out known issues in the Apple Vision Pro app and StoreKit.

Alongside iOS 18.4 Beta 4, Apple has released beta updates for iPadOS 18.4, visionOS 2.4, macOS Sequoia 15.4, tvOS 18.4, and watchOS 11.4. The final stable version of iOS 18.4 is expected to roll out in April 2025.
