BSNL 5G: India’s state-run telecom giant BSNL is drawing attention from users across the country—thanks to its affordable recharge plans and expanding network reach. As private telecom players ramp up competition, many customers are turning to BSNL, not only for value but now for the promise of wider 4G and future-ready 5G services.

After launching 4G in multiple urban areas, BSNL is now preparing to bring its services to rural parts of the country—something users in those regions have long awaited. Meanwhile, the company has also begun laying the foundation for its 5G network.

Massive Network Rollout in Progress

BSNL is currently working on a large-scale plan to install one lakh 4G sites nationwide by June 2025. Interestingly, this same infrastructure is being designed with future upgrades in mind—setting the stage for a smooth transition to 5G.

The company has already kicked off 5G testing in major cities, which could mean that a national rollout isn’t far off. If successful, BSNL users might soon have access to high-speed 5G connectivity.

Initial 5G Rollout Begins in Select Cities

An official speaking to Business Standard confirmed that BSNL has started deploying base transceiver stations (BTS) in cities like Kanpur, Pune, Vijayawada, Coimbatore, and Kollam. According to reports, the testing is currently limited to one or two locations in each city and is being conducted over internal networks—not yet available to the public.

The company appears to be taking a phased approach, with plans to launch 5G first in areas where its network backbone is strongest.

Indigenous Tech at the Core

As reported by TelecomTalk, BSNL is pushing ahead with its 4G expansion using fully indigenous technology. The rollout, if completed on schedule, would wrap up by the end of June 2025. These 4G towers are being built with the potential for quick 5G upgrades in the near future.

Union Telecom Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia has expressed strong enthusiasm about BSNL’s 5G efforts. More updates from the ministry and BSNL are expected soon.

Rooted in Customer Commitment

BSNL Chairman and Managing Director Robert J Ravi has emphasised the company’s deep connection with its user base. “The journey of BSNL is the voice of each of its customers,” he said—highlighting the company’s commitment to serving India with honesty, speed, and pride through homegrown innovation.

As BSNL prepares to bridge the gap between rural and urban connectivity while setting the stage for India’s next-gen telecom future, users across the country may soon see a significant upgrade in their network experience.
