OpenAI platform ChatGPT is inaccessible to many users amid people in their hoards ardently using the chatbot to make Studio Ghibli images. Many users complained they were logged out of the app suddenly while using it.  

“It seems this application has become very popular and its available rate limit has been reached. Please retry after a few minutes,” the display message reporting a bug in the app reads.

According to DownDetector, a platform that monitors service outages, users submitted 229 reports about OpenAI-related issues. Among these complaints, approximately 59 per cent were linked to problems with ChatGPT.  

Many users also fuelled a meme fest. 

"how do I explain to my prof that I couldn’t make my deadline because chatgpt is down," a user posted.

Another posted, "Is it just me, or is ChatGPT really down?"

"chatGPT is DOWN Aur karo Ghibli Ghibli," the third said.  

"ChatGPT is down, Ghibli style broke down data centers!" another said. 

OpenAI recently launched its most advanced image generator through an update in ChatGPT-4o. It enables users to create images in the hand-drawn animation style popularised by Hayao Miyazaki.

While Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, recognised the overwhelming demand for Ghibli-style images, he mentioned that the GPUs were melting due to the intense usage.

“It's super fun seeing people love images in chatgpt. but our GPUs are melting. we are going to temporarily introduce some rate limits while we work on making it more efficient. hopefully won't be long! chatgpt free tier will get 3 generations per day soon,” Altman posted on X.
