Google announced Gemini for users in December 2023, which the company touted as its "most capable AI model" to date. While the model powered the company's Bard AI chat in English, the company has now expanded support in more than 40 languages and 230+ countries and territories. On top of this, the company is also bringing image generation capabilities for Bard, similar to Microsoft Copilot.
According to Google, Gemini Pro will offer better "understanding, reasoning, summarising and coding" capabilities to the model, which will fine-tune Bard to expand its capabilities. Among the listed languages include Bengali, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Urdu and more. Apart from this, the company is also expanding its double-check feature across 40 languages. The option can be prompted via the 'G' icon.

"When you click on the 'G' icon, Bard will evaluate whether there is content across the web to substantiate its response. If it can be evaluated, you can click the highlighted phrases and learn more about supporting or contradicting information found by Search," Google said. The company has also introduced image generation capabilities in Bard in the English language. The feature will be available "in most countries" for free.
It will be powered by the revamped Imagen 2 model that can deliver "high-quality, photorealistic" pictures, according to the firm. Users can type a prompt in the search box to start creating images. For safety and considering the recent cases of fake AI-generated images storming the internet, Google will use "SynthID to embed digitally identifiable watermarks" into pixels of these images.

The guardrails will help limit the generation of "violent, offensive or sexually explicit content". Moreover, the tech giant will implement measures to restrict the image generation of named people. Speaking of the competition, Copilot, Microsoft's AI chat model already offers text generation (powered by GPT-4) and Image Creation capabilities (powered by DALL-E 3). The Windows Maker also has an app for smartphone users for added convenience.
