Google Chrome is one of the most popular internet browsers used across the globe. The tech giant regularly rolls out updates to further enhance the user experience. And in a fresh move, the company is testing the option to 'read aloud' articles from the web. The function, which is similar to Microsoft Edge's article reading feature, is currently undergoing testing on the desktop version of Chrome Canary.
According to Bleeping Computer, using read-aloud, a Chrome user can take control of the playback speed at which the articles are being read using the speed controller. The report added options to switch voices and enhance the listening experience will be available in the future.
The read-aloud functionality packs an interactive design element in the UI that highlights the sentence on the screen that is currently narrated. Previous sections fade away as the reading process proceeds. This ensures users continue to engage with the process on the screen while listening to the article.
Google is also offering a button to manually turn off the text highlighting functionality for the ones who do not wish to use it, according to the report. On a related note, as the browser completes 15 years, the company announced a fresh look for Desktop users.
