Google is reportedly trying a new accessibility option in Gemini Live—captions displaying answers in real-time text as they are given. Intended for users who are deaf or hard of hearing and for many other quiet users, this feature allows users to engage with Gemini AI in a more seamless and friendly manner. The captions are located in the middle of the screen, which means that users who wish to learn about what is being said do not want to increase the volume. Caption font, size and colour can be changed according to users who have changed.

Though not officially released, some users have already reported seeing it, suggesting some sort of gradual release.

As per the information put together by Android Authority, this update is linked to the Google app version 16.21.57, which seems to be under limited distribution for now.

Once the feature is activated, a dialogue box icon can be seen in the right hand corner of Gemini Live and clicking this icon lets users switch the captions on or off.
